FAQ

Allergies to cow milk

Goat milk contains only trace amounts of the major protein in cow milk to which many people are allergic (alpha s-1 casein). If you are sensitive to this protein, goat milk may be tolerated. Soy sensitivity is also a problem for some people. Goat milk also has a predominance of short and medium chain fatty acids (vs. the long-chain fatty acids, predominating in cow milk). Check with your doctor prior to using goat milk if you have severe cow milk protein allergy.

Goat milk for digestive problems

Goat milk is a wholesome food like cow milk, with the added advantage of being more easily digested because of its protein makeup and smaller, more easily assimilated fat globules. As a result, goat milk often agrees with sensitive or weak digestive systems.

Goat milk and lactose

All natural mammalian milks, including human milk, contain lactose (milk sugar). However, many lactose intolerant people are able to tolerate goat milk. Goat milk also has a natural buffering quality to it, making it an excellent choice for those with ulcers and/or sensitive or weak digestive systems.

Why does your milk taste so good, it is not what I expected

The reason that goat milk is easily digested also means that it needs to handled very gently from the farm to the factory and to you the consumer. The fat globule in goat milk is fragile and easily broken. Our farms have the most modern milk harvesting systems available from DeLaval designed to minimise air inclusion into the milk. Our milk on the farm is immediately chilled to 4°C to preserve quality and held at 1°C prior to pasteurizing and processing. At the factory we pay careful attention to our temperature and pressure profiles resulting in a premium product to you, our customer.

I can't regularly buy fresh milk, can I freeze your milk?

While not ideal, plenty of people do. Goat's milk freezes and thaws better than cows milk. An alternative is to buy GoLife milk powder and make it up as you need it.
